Starbucks Iced White Chocolate Mocha Recipe

Today we are making a Starbucks Iced White Chocolate Mocha Recipe! I’m back with yet ANOTHER remake of a Starbucks drink, using my espresso machine to the max. This decadent summer drink combines shots of espresso with homemade white chocolate sauce, milk and ice. On top goes some beautiful whipped cream, and you’ve got yourself a popular iced coffee drink for a hot summer day!

Starbucks website describes this sweet treat as Starbucks espresso roast coffee beans with white chocolate mocha sauce, milk and ice, then finished off with sweetened whipped cream to create this supreme white chocolate mocha drink! FYI, The Starbucks grande version contains 48 grams of sugar, 20 grams of fat and 150 mg of caffeine.

Or maybe not so much of a sugar hit if you make it at home rather than buy it at a coffee shop (and for a fraction of the cost). So I went and bought a block of vegan white chocolate I found at my local grocery store. White chocolate is not a common vegan ingredient (or so I’ve seen) to the point where it’s easily and cheaply available everywhere. It has a delicious flavor, but you might have to check a few places or order it online. The the brand I like to use is iChoc. With the few simple steps given in the recipe card below, you can have this drink in your hands ASAP!

Why You’ll Love This Starbucks Iced White Chocolate Mocha Recipe

White Chocolate Touch: I’m a big coffee fan, but I haven’t seen a ton of popular drinks with white chocolate out there being recreated on social media. Especially being vegan, the options for white chocolate are limited in terms of various companies offering this product at a local grocery store. There’s only been one brand available where I live, which I always go back to when I’m baking a new recipe with white chocolate. There’s something about that cocoa butter flavor, but not quite a milk or dark chocolate, that’s appealing in its own right!

Homemade Copycat Recipe: What better way to enjoy the summer than to recreate your favorite popular drinks at home while you lounge in the summer sun with an endless supply of coffee? Making your own white chocolate sauce for this drink is what I call … satisfaction.

Substitutions for the Drink

Oat Milk: You can use any other vegan milk you’d like, but oat milk gives the best results. Other options could be almond milk or cashew milk.

Ice: No white iced mocha is complete without more ice than drink! Fill up your cup with thick ice cubes. You’ll thank me later when the sweat is coating your upper lip and the fake leather car seats feel like you’re sitting on a fireplace.

Black Coffee: The original drink uses fresh espresso. Specifically two shots of it, which is about a quarter cup. I used instant espresso powder (instant coffee) to make black coffee at home, but you can also use a coffee machine. Use your preferred method for making the coffee.

You can also try this recipe out with an equivalent amount of cold brew coffee. This would be a great way to save on the cooling time required for the hot espresso. It would also make it have a strong coffee flavor because cold brew is stronger than espresso.

Substitutions for the White Mocha Sauce

White Chocolate: As I mentioned earlier in this post, I bought a block of vegan white chocolate from my local grocery store. I don’t remember the brand, but it was on par with non-vegan white chocolate for me. I melted this on the stovetop with some sweetener and milk. After a few minutes, it was slowly thickening to a sauce. Then, I removed it from the heat and added vanilla extract. While this recipe has simple ingredients, the vegan white chocolate may be harder to find depending on your location.

Sweetener: This is optional. If adding more sugar, start with a little bit and add more as desired. I would use agave syrup or another neutral liquid sweetener here. The sweetness of the white chocolate accounts for some sugar already. Because of that, I didn’t feel the need to add more to my drink.

Substitutions for the Whipped Cream

Whipped Cream: You can’t have the word Starbucks without the word whip in the same paragraph. In the background of my photos, you’ll see a can of coconut whipped cream. This is the best option for vegan whipped cream in my opinion – Gay Lea brand! It’s available in many major grocery stores around Canada and US. It has a coconut-ty taste though, so there may be other, more neutral vegan whipped creams that can be found online.

You can even make your own coconut whipped cream with a can of coconut milk! This requires keeping the can overnight in the refrigerator. In the morning, you’ll see a thick layer on top of the can when you open it. This is known as coconut cream. Use a stand mixer to whip the coconut cream, and eventually it’ll be really fluffy (it’s just the magic of coconut)!

Starbucks Iced White Chocolate Mocha Recipe Notes

  • To elevate this delicious drink, make shaved white chocolate pieces to sprinkle over the whipped cream. I topped my drink with a block of white chocolate to bite into (the best part!) once the drink was finished.
