Cardamom Rose Latte Recipe

Today we are making a Cardamom Rose Latte Recipe! This drink uses plant-based milk infused with cardamom and rose flavor for an Indian-inspired latte!

When I think of this beautiful flower, I think of rose gardens – flowers, sunny days, weddings, and grace. You know what doesn’t ever cross my mind? Food. Because roses and their floral flavor are not something I really associated with eating. But turns out, it’s actually used in so many ways for food! What with this plant having many healthy benefits and anti-inflammatory properties, it makes for a great addition to recipes (did you know? Rose water is also a mood enhancer)!

Many Ways to Use Roses

So roses are used in a variety of recipes.

(1) Mix them with spices to make a dry rub for seasoning tofu or vegan meat.

(2) Boil rose petals to make rose tea.

(3) Make rose sugar (rose petals ground with sugar) to sprinkle on top of freshly made sugar cookies.

(4) Candied flower petals can make the perfect garnish for a cake.

(5) They can add color and a unique ingredient to salads!

(6) Ground it up into freshly made butter for a fragrant bread or muffin spread!

(7) Make lattes out of it, like today! Roses mix with different ingredients, like cardamom, hibiscus or beet powder, to make fun flavors for lattes.

(8) Honestly, there’s too many options to list. My point is, they are so much more versatile than sending a bouquet of roses to your loved ones during Valentine’s.

Inspiration For This Recipe

So the only reason I decided to use rose in a latte was because one of my cousins noticed all the recipes I was making, so she gave me an extra bag she had at her house that wasn’t being used. The first thing I thought of was that a pink latte would be really cute!

Plus, being pink while it tastes like subtle roses. Graceful in a cup! There are other ways to make the latte more pink, like using hibiscus, pink pitaya powder or beetroot powder, which other recipes may use. Feel free to add these in for a beautiful dusty pink colour and flavor if you have them, or keep it to just the roses!

Why You’ll Love This Cardamom Rose Latte Recipe

Soothing Self-Care: The rich, velvety texture of the steamed milk, combined with the gentle sweetness of rose and a touch of maple syrup, offers a comforting and soothing experience. It’s the perfect cozy drink to enjoy during a self-care evening.

Elegant & Instagram-Worthy: Roses have a beautiful pink color, and combining these with a sprinkle of ground cardamom and the floral note of the roses makes it an elegant hot drink. It’s perfect for impressing guests or simply capturing stunning photos for your social media. See the recipe notes section below on how to make this drink more of a pink color!

Unique & Memorable: This is not your regular cup of coffee or tea; it’s a special drink that stands out from the crowd of hot lattes (and one that you won’t easily find at a coffee shop)! Make it a memorable choice for special occasions or as a delightful treat for yourself.

Substitutions

Milk: Use oat milk, cashew milk, soy milk, coconut milk (this has a high fat content like whole milk) or another plant-based milk of choice. Different milks have different tastes, so do a milk taste test before using it in this recipe.

Maple Syrup: Use pure maple syrup, not pancake maple syrup. The only ingredient should be “maple syrup” on the bottle. Alternatively, use agave nectar or another liquid sweetener of choice. Traditionally, recipes would use a simple syrup made with rose. To cut down on the steps, we use ground up rose petals and let them steep in the warm milk after boiling, to infuse the flavor.

Rose Petals: Use dried rose petals. You can find these at Indian grocery stores, or at a shop online. I don’t recommend to get pre-ground rose powder, as grinding them fresh has a better taste.

Cardamom Seeds: Use fresh green cardamom pods (with the seeds). The entire thing will be ground up in the spice grinder, then strained through a sieve. You can also find these at Indian grocers.

Cardamom Rose Latte Recipe Notes

  • Try making this into an iced rose latte in the summer months! Let the drink cool down, then add ice cubes and adjust the amount of sweetener. Since the recipe will be diluted with ice cubes, you may need to add a little more maple syrup.
  • Add in vanilla powder or vanilla extract for a little extra vanilla flavor.
  • This drink is not very pink on its own, but you can add some beet root powder, hibiscus tea flower or pink pitaya powder for color. I had used ground up cherries to extract some cherry juice for the color and flavor.
